James E. Anderson Sr. – Source: Fulton County Sheriff’s Office

GLOVERSVILLE - The body found this week in Gloversville has been identified as that of a Johnstown man missing since last summer, Gloversville Police said Thursday.

Police identified the body as that of James E. Anderson, Sr., 48, of the town of Johnstown.

He had been the subject of an active missing person's investigation since last summer.

The cause of the man's death, however, remained undetermined and the circumstances surrounding his death remained under investigation.

Anderson's body was discovered at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cayadutta Creek, officials said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Det. Lt. Luke Nellis at 518-773-4577.

Anderson was last seen on Old Peck Hill Road on Aug. 1 in the town of Johnstown, officials have said. After an argument at his mother’s house in the Gloversville area, he borrowed a vehicle from a local woman and returned it with an empty tank of gas.

Old Peck Hill Road is a minimum of just under three miles from the area where his body was found.

The 6-foot-3, 135-pound man known as “Jimbob” was wearing a green camo shirt at the time.

While he did have fights with his mother, his sister, Heather Fegley, previously told the Daily Gazette Family of Newspapers in September that it was uncharacteristic of him to be gone so long.

Anderson is a father to two, uncle to five and great uncle to eight, his sister has said. He has previously worked at the now-shuttered That Tape Place in Johnstown and as a cab driver.

A release Thursday about the identification did not provide further details on the investigation, including an idea on when Anderson died.

But Sheriff Richard Giardino, in a December interview about Anderson's disappearance, indicated that investigators hadn't seen any activity on Anderson's cell phone and no one had seen him, saying then "it's suspicious in that sense."

The case was then still “very” active, Giardino said in December.
