Cops: Man tortured neighbor's dog by locking it in steel box

ROMULUS, N.Y. (AP) — Police in upstate New York say a man tortured his neighbor’s dog by trapping it in an enclosed steel box for more than eight hours.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the scene in Romulus Saturday night for a report of animal cruelty. WHAM-TV in Rochester reports deputies arrested 59-year-old Jeffrey Vanhorn at the scene.
Deputies say Vanhorn trapped his neighbor’s 2-year-old black lab dog inside the box for nearly eight hours on a day when temperatures exceeded 90 degrees. The dog was freed and has since recovered.
Vanhorn is scheduled to be back in court on July 27 on a charge of animal torture. He was released on an appearance ticket. A listed phone number for him to seek comment couldn’t be found.
