NWS alert: Flood warning for the Sacandaga River at Hope extended until 4 a.m. Friday.

HOPE — A Flood Warning has been issued for the Sacandaga River in the town from this afternoon until early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, at noon today the stage was 6.8 feet. Flood stage is 7 feet. Minor flooding is forecast.

The river is forecast to reach flood stage by 2 p.m. today and forecast to continue to rise to near 7.1 feet around 8 p.m. tonight. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage after 10 p.m. this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, water is expected to overflow onto lowlands and approach Route 30.

A flood watch is in effect for Fulton and Hamilton counties until 11 p.m. tonight. According to the weather service, showers will continue across the area into this evening. Some minor river flooding will be possible at a few, isolated locations. Otherwise, rainfall rates will not be heavy enough to cause any new flooding, as totals from 4 p.m. through the rest of this evening will be mainly a quarter of an inch or less, except perhaps a little higher over higher terrain east of the Hudson River.
