Northville graduate earns PhD in biology
NORTHVILLE — Heather Nelson, daughter of Dan and Lori Nelson of Canyon Country, Calif., and granddaughter of Bill and Donna Crannell of Northville, has earned a doctorate in cell and development biology from the College of Graduate Studies at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
While at Upstate, she received the Max Mozell Unsung Hero Award, the Professional and Public Service award, and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award recognizing her for her community involvement and scholastic and athletic achievements.
Nelson graduated from Northville Central School in 2008, where she was valedictorian. She graduated summa cum laude from Elmira College in 2012 with bachelor of science degrees in biology and chemistry.
Besides her studies, Nelson trains and competes in triathlons and participates in various soccer leagues.
She has accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship at Vanderbilt University where she will continue her research on the causes and treatment of diabetes.
