Several area riders claim Royal wins

CAROGA LAKE — A large field of 229 riders competed Wednesday during weekly supercross competition at Royal Mountain Ski Area,

Johnstown’s Hayden Zelich, Gloversville’s Sal Attigliato Jr., Johnstown’s Brennan Hart, Johnstown’s Maxx Miller, Johnstown’s Bennett Melita, St. Johnsville’s Kaci Bare, Pattersonville’s Mike Baker, Johnstown’s Michel Ward and Amsterdam’s Matthew Hirschfeld all claimed wins Wednesday.

Zelich won the 122-125cc two-stroke, schoolboy and 122-open amateur classes, while Attigliato won the 50cc 4-to-8-year-old open/E-bike and 50cc 4-to-6-year-old classes

Melita won the mini 80 12-to-15-year-old and open mini 10-to-16-year-old classes. He also was second in the schoolboy class.

Miller won the mini 60 7-to-11-year-old class. He also was second in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old and mini 80 9-to-11-year-old classes

Baker won the plus-40 amateur class and was third in the plus-30 amateur class, while Ward won the plus-50 open class and was third in the plus-30 expert class

Hirschfeld won the quad expert class, while Hart won the 50cc 7-and-8-year-old/E-bike class.

In addition to Zelich, Melita and Attigliato Jr., two other riders claimed wins in multiple classes.

Salem’s Zachary Johnson won the 122-open novice and 122-250 novice classes, while Buffalo’s Austin Becker swept all four motos to win both the pit bike modified and pit bike stock classes.

Other winners included Scotia’s Brett Unser (122-250 amateur), Coeymans’ Jerome Gladney III (122-250 expert), Stillwater’s Tim Flanagan (122-open expert), Freehold’s Caiden West (junior mini 9-11), Fort Ann’s Lawrence Havens (plus-30 amateur), Fort Ann’s Edward Ladd III (plus-30 expert), Maryland’s Jayden Jaszcar (mini quad 50cc), Canastota’s Jesse Brant-Maracle (quad amateur), Newport’s Gavin Maine (quad novice), Queensbury’s Becka Broe (women’s 85-250cc) and Valley Falls’ Ethan Dufresne (quad schoolboy).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes in their respective classes.

In the 122-open novice class, Canajoharie’s Alex Kilmartin was second, Johnstown’s Stephen Young was third, Johnstown’s Sean Smith was fourth and Canajoharie’s C.J. Renzi was fifth.

Gloversville’s Devin Buyce was fourth in the 122-125 two-stroke class and Nelliston’s Brandon Dygert was fifth. Buyce also was third in the schoolboy class, while St. Johnsville’s Hunter Hickey was fifth.

Johnstown’s Carter Petersen was second in the 122-250 amateur class, while Gloversville’s Anthony Attigliato was third. Petersen also was fifth in the 122-open amateur class.

Amsterdam’s Seth Garrison was third in the 122-250 novice class, while Canajoharie’s Tyler Dygert was fourth.

Burton Wilson Jr. was fourth in the 50cc 4-to-8-year-old open/E-bike and fifth in the 50cc 4-to-6-year-old classes

Johnstown’s Bradley Russo was third in the 50cc 7-and-8-year-old/E-bike class.

Johnstown’s Kip Simonds was second in the mini 60 7-to-11-year-old class and Pattersonville’s Eason Baker was fourth. Simonds also was fourth in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old class.

In the mini quad 50cc class, St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson was second and Johnstown’s Anderson Giardino was third. Wilson also was second in the mini quad 51-90cc class.

Caroga Lake’s John Livingston was third in the open mini 10-16-year-old class, while Gloversville’s Iain Melita was fourth.

In the pit bike modified class, Amsterdam’s Joey Vitalis was second, Broadalbin’s Dan Gifford was third, Fonda’s Skylar Olmstead was fourth and Broadalbin’s Paul Gifford was fifth.

Gloversville’s Nicholas Telford was second in the pit bike stock class, Broadalbin’s Dan Gifford was third and Gloversville’s Kenny Holliday was fifth.

Northville’s Troy Palmer was second in the quad amateur class, while Northville’s Eric Junquera was second in the quad expert class.

In the quad novice class, Mayfield’s Evan Lehr was second, Mayfield’s Andrew Ashbey was third and Amsterdam’s Kolby Krutz was fourth.

In the quad schoolboy class, Gloversville’s Tyler Rizzo was second, Fultonville’s Kendra Cary was third and Amsterdam’s Mia Richards was fourth.
