RACING AROUND: Point chase at Fonda heating up
It’s a little hard to believe that the school year is just about over and that the Fonda Speedway schedule is at the midway-point.
Stewart Friesen has won the majority of the modified features so far this season, visiting Victory Lane six out of the seven times he has been at the speedway this season.
However, he is not the mid-way points leader. That honor goes to Josh Hohenforst.
Hohenforst has been a steady top 10 finisher each week but has not parked his modified in Victory Lane yet.
Craig Hanson has also been steady and up until this week was in second behind Hohenforst, but a 15th-place finish last week after having mechanical issues dropped him to fourth and moving Jack Lehner and Rocky Warner up to second and third.
Lehner now trails Hohenforst by 15 points 483-468 and leads Warner by a single point with Hanson six points behind Warner.
Cody Clark and defending 602 crate sportsman champion Chad Edwards are locked in a tight battle at the top of the standings.
Clark has won the last two weeks and has moved to the top of the standings five points ahead of Edwards, who won back-to-back features earlier this season, 503-498.
Clark had to wait until earlier this week to find out if his win Saturday was official as a protest was filed against his engine.
The engine was pulled after the race Saturday, sent to Hunt’s Machine in Schenectady and checked out,
With representatives of both teams present, the engine was found to be in full compliance with GM specifications and he was finally awarded the victory.
Mark Mortensen and Tim Hartman Jr. are separated by a single point, 419-418 in a distant battle for third.
Nick Stone and Kenny Gates fill the top two spots in the Pro Stock standings with 546 and 502 points, respectively.
Carter Gibbons leads Clayton DuMond and Jeremy Tyrrell in the Limited Sportsman division. Gibbons has 427 points, while DuMond had 506 and Tyrrell has 502.
Slappy White holds a six-point lead over Ken Hollenbeck, 544-538, while Kerrie Hollenbeck is third overall with 512 and second to White in the DOHC standings. Ken Hollenbeck is in command of the SOHC standings.
