Johnstown, Galway fall in softball sectionals

VALATIE — Emma Scheitinger and Carolina Williams each had a single, double and scored two runs to help top-seed Ichabod Crane post a 10-0 victory over 16th-seed Johnstown in the first round of the Section II Class B Softball Tournament on Wednesday.

Emma Heartquist was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Riders, while Isabella Milazzo had a single and two RBIs.

Ava Heffner had a single, RBI and scored a run for Ichabod Crane, which scored five times in the bottom of the first inning on its way to the win.

Milazzo also earned the win in the circle for Ichabod Crane, striking out 16, walking three, and allowing three hits and no runs over seven innings.

Joelle Bump, Sarah Pratt and Ari Vuskalns all had singles for Johnstown (6-11 overall).

Ichabod Crane advances to today’s quarterfinals. The Riders will host ninth-seeded Fonda-Fultonville today at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Braves defeated eighth-seeded Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 9-6, in their first-round matchup Tuesday.

Class C First Round

Warrensburg 11, Galway 3

WARRENSBURG — After the game was suspended by storms with fourth-seeded Warrensburg ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday, the Burghers finished off their Class C first-round victory over 20th-seeded Galway on Wednesday.

Kailey Bacon earned the win in the circle for Warrensburg, striking out 12 and allowing five hits over seven innings. She also went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.

Nayana DeAmelia had a double, triple and two RBIs for the Burghers, while Sara Langworthy was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alonah Olden had a triple for Warrensburg, and Natalie Beder added a double.

Trishelle Oliver had two RBIs for Galway (4-9 overall), while Amber Kolpakas was 2-for-3. Eliza Eagan was 2-for-4 for the Golden Eagles.

Warrensburg (13-3 overall) advances to today’s quarterfinals. The Burghers will host fifth-seeded Saratoga Central Catholic today at 2 p.m.
