Lady Bills fall in Foothills contest

JOHNSTOWN — Scotia-Glenville used a 10 run sixth inning take the lead and defeat Johnstown 17-7 in Foothills Council softball action Thursday at Johnstown High School.

Hannah Piraino tripled for the Lady Tartans, while Arianna Stark and Sophia Kownack had three singles and three RBIs apiece.

Emma Schaub got the win in the circle for Scotia-Glenville, allowing six hits and striking out nine.

Johnstown (0-1, 0-1) will travel to play Amsterdam today at Shuttleworth Park.

Mayfield 3, Galway 1 (8)

MAYFIELD — Pitcher Jillian Botch helped her cause Thursday, blasting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to get the win over Galway in non-league action at the Mayfield Elementary School field.

Botch also held the Golden Eagles to one hit while striking out 14.

Galway pitcher Amber Kolpakas struck out 13 and allowed five hits. Jalene Graham tripled for the Golden Eagles’ lone hit.

Marissa Wille led off the bottom of the eighth with a double and scored on Botch’s home run. Emily Senese, Heather Ginter and Kat Agrter all singled for the Lady Panthers.

Mayfield (1-0) will host Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons on Monday.
