Broadalbin-Perth edges Gloversville, 14-13

GLOVERSVILLE — After dropping its season opener to Fonda-Fultonville on Tuesday, the Broadalbin-Perth softball team looked to bounce back in its Foothills Council opener at Gloversville on Wednesday.

The Lady Patriots did just that, outlasting the Huskies, 14-13, in eight innings.

B-P scored the game-winning run on a Gloversville error in the top of eighth inning.

Kiaira Tomlinson was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBIs and four runs scored to power B-P. Tomlinson belted two home runs in the Lady Patriots’ 11-9 loss to Fonda-Fultonville on Tuesday.

Kayde Smith was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for Broadalbin-Perth (1-1 overall, 1-0 Foothills), while Kelsey Hinterliter was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Samantha Westfall added a triple for the Lady Patriots.

Hinterliter also pitched 6 2/3 innings for B-P, striking out seven, walking none, and allowing eight runs and 12 hits.

Shaelyn Kanches earned the win for the Lady Patriots, allowing one hit and five runs in 1 1/3 innings. Kanches also struck out two and walked four.

Celia Meher was 4-for-4 for Gloversville with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored, while Miranda Brown was 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Jordan DeMagistris finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and two RBIs for the Huskies, while Maddy Avery was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Gretta Atty took the loss in the circle for Gloversville. Atty allowed 14 runs — eight earned, struck out 10, walked three and allowed 13 hits.

Gloversville (0-1 overall, 0-1 Foothills) is scheduled to travel to Scotia-Glenville on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

Broadalbin-Perth is slated to host Queensbury on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
