Girls Soccer Roundup: Canajoharie cruises past Fort Plain
FORT PLAIN — Playing for the third time in four days, the Canajoharie girls soccer team showed no signs of fatigue in a 7-0 victory over Fort Plain in a Western Athletic Conference contest Monday.
Caitlyn Baker had two goals and two assists for the Cougars, who played Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a 2-2 draw Sunday and who posted a 3-0 win over Mayfield on Friday.
Vanessa VanSlyke had two goals and an assist for Canajoharie, while Korynn Mosher scored twice. Aver Merchant also scored for the Cougars, while Sophie Xiao and Kaijah Fowler each had an assist.
ShellyAnn Hemmes made one save to post the shutout in goal for Canajoharie (4-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 WAC), which is scheduled to host Fonda-Fultonville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Erin Crouse made 14 stops for Fort Plain (0-2 overall, 0-2 WAC), which is slated to travel to Northville on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
Mayfield 1, Fonda-Fultonville 0
FONDA — After a scoreless first half, Kelsey Meca scored on a corner kick by Jordan Miller to lift Mayfield to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Fonda-Fultonville at Boshart Field.
It was the first win of the season for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 1-4 overall and in WAC play.
“I am so proud of my girls and how they kept their composure throughout the game,” Mayfield coach Maris Logan said. “There were opportunities that were challenging but our team worked together to get their first win of the season.”
Marissa Willie made 10 saves to post the shutout in goal for Mayfield, which is scheduled to host Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Emma Crahan made six stops for Fonda-Fultonville, which is slated to travel to Canajoharie on Wednesday for a 4:30 pm.. contest.
Galway 3, Middleburgh 0
MIDDLEBURGH — Izzy Mancini and Stephanie Martin each had a goal and an assist to lead Galway to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Middleburgh on Monday.
Anna Miesenburg also scored for the Golden Eagles, while Emma Spadaro added an assist.
Hannah French made five saves to post the shutout in goal for Galway.
Cameryn Shultes made 12 stops for Middleburgh.
Schoharie 8, Berne-Knox-Westerlo 0
SCHOHARIE — Megan Krohn finished with three goals and two assists to lead Schoharie to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
Haley Drinon posted three goals and an assist for the Indians, while Morgan Phelan and Briana Repscher also scored.
Abby Fagnani had an assist for Schoharie, while Maddie Bland made five saves to post the shutout in goal.
Kaelyn LoBalbo made five stops for Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
Northville, OESJ postponed
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Monday’s Western Athletic Conference contest between Northville at Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville was postponed due to wet field conditions with no make-up date set.
Queensbury 4, Scotia-Glenville 3
SCOTIA — Bayley Duffy scored twice to help Queensbury rally from a 2-1 halftime deficit to notch a Foothills Council victory over Scotia-Glenville.
Christina Dummings had a goal and two assists for the Spartans, while Brigid Duffy had a goal and an assist. Kylie Potter added an assist for Queensbury.
Lucy Crounse had a goal and an assist for Scotia-Glenville, while Sage Luke and Brooklyn Drago also scored. Morgan Nichter added an assist for the Tartans.
Emma Lemery made five saves for Queensbury, while Kortney Clark made nine stops for Scotia-Glenville.
