Canajoharie tops Mayfield, 3-0

FONDA — Playing for the first time since March 29, the Canajoharie girls soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Mayfield on Friday at Fonda-Fultonville’s Boshart Field.

Giana Murphy had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, while Caitlyn Baker and Vanessa VanSlyke also scored. Korynn Mosher added two assists for Canajoharie, which has yet to allow a goal this season.

Baker scored the lone first half goal for either team on an assist from Mosher to make it 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, VanSlyke scored on an assist from Murphy 15 minutes into the half to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Murphy closed out the scoring with nine minutes remaining on an assist from Mosher to make the final score, 3-0.

ShellyAnn Hemmes made six saves to post the shutout in goal for Canajoharie, which has outscored its opposition 11-0 through three games.

Marissa Wille made nine stops for Mayfield.

Canajoharie (3-0 overall, 3-0 WAC) is scheduled to face Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville on Sunday at Fonda-Fultonville at 11 a.m.

Mayfield (0-3 overall, 0-3 WAC) is slated to face Northville on Sunday at Fonda-Fultonville at 3 p.m.
