Boys Soccer Roundup: Northville shuts out Fort Plain
FORT PLAIN — Miles Weaver scored twice to lead Northville to a 5-0 victory over Fort Plain in a Western Athletic Conference boys soccer contest Wednesday.
Landon Ginter, Jacob Frank and Blake Forman also scored for the Falcons, while Josiah Jensen had two assists. Caleb Clapper and John Pertell each had an assist for Northville (4-2 overall, 4-2 WAC), which scored four second-half goals to break the game open.
Daniel VanNostrand and Landon Frasier shared the shutout in goal and didn’t need to make a save against the Hilltoppers.
Robert Jordan made three saves for Fort Plain (1-3 overall, 1-3 WAC).
Canajoharie 1, Fonda-Fultonville 0
FONDA — Cody Haig scored the game’s only goal to lift Canajoharie to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Fonda-Fultonville at Boshart Field.
Braden Greenslete assisted on the goal for the Cougars, who improved to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in WAC play.
“Tommy Weingart had a great game at midfield creating opportunities and playing solid defense. Freshman Brady Toher stepped up huge on defense and Sam Sunderland controlled the center with Braden Greenslete well and moved the ball to the outsides as well as hitting open space,” Canajoharie coach Kevin Stuttle said. “Tommy Jenks also had a great game at sweeper. Overall, it was a great team effort.”
Andrew Meka made nine saves to post the shutout in goal for Canajoharie.
Jacob Sisco made six saves for FFCS (0-3-1 overall, 0-3-1 WAC).
OESJ 2, Mayfield 0
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Mason Snell scored both goals to lead Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Mayfield.
Dylan Barnes had an assist for the Wolves, who were playing their first home game.
Travis LaFountain made four saves to post the shutout in goal for OESJ (5-0 overall, 5-0 WAC), which outshot the Panthers by a 13-6 margin.
Aiden Martuscello made eight stops for Mayfield (2-2-1 overall, 2-2-1 WAC).
Galway 6, Mekeel Christian 4
COLONIE — Chris Maher and Anthony Powers each scored twice to help Galway to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Mekeel Christian Academy at Afrim’s Sports Park.
Rowan Smith had a goal and an assist for the Golden Eagles, while Braden Boudreau also scored.
Charlie Clarke finished with three assists for Galway (7-0 overall, 7-0 WAC), while Mike Zelezniak added one assist.
Len’s Lima scored all four goals for Mekeel Christian (4-3 overall, 4-3 WAC).
Henry Flint made five saves for Galway, while Justin Davidson made 10 stops for Mekeel Christian.
Middleburgh 8, BKW/Duanesburg 2
MIDDLEBURGH — Austin Johns finished with four goals and an assist to power Middleburgh to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg.
Andrew Johns recorded two goals and an assist for the Knights, while Ethan Adams and Kaurice Bell also scored. Devin Lacko and Brendan Ryan each had an assist for Middleburgh (5-2 WAC).
Zack Schwenk and Ben Zyniecki scored for Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg (2-4-1 WAC).
Ian Hoop made four saves for Middleburgh.
Schoharie 2, Bishop Gibbons 2
SCHOHARIE — Daniel Bernhardt and Maddox Gangeme scored to help Schoharie to a draw with Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in a Western Athletic Conference contest.
Jason Ford and Nicholas Kuban scored for Bishop Gibbons.
