JOHNSTOWN — Andrew Bauer of Clifton Park recently signed a letter of intent to attend Fulton-Montgomery Community College in the fall and to become a member of the FMCC Bowling team.

Bauer has been the captain of the Shenendehowa High School bowling team the past two seasons. He has maintained a 197 average both years. Bauer was the 2019 USBC City Champion (singles event) and has been a USBC Troy Prestige Tournament member for the last four years.

“Andrew checks all the boxes for any recruit. His bowling skills speak for themselves but he is involved in his community (a USBC Youth Leader), however most importantly he has strong academics, as he has continually been on the honor roll at Shen for the past three years,” FMCC head bowling coach Tom Rathbun said in a news release. “It is important to remember that we are an academic institution after all and we take that very seriously.”

Recruiting for all sports during the COVID pandemic has been problematic at best as no recruiters or spectators were allowed to attend events.

“Obviously this past year has been like no other. You try to get your name and program out there but it certainly isn’t the same compared to face to face,” Rathbun said in the release. “Having Andrew sign with us is a big get and we are very pleased to have him in our program. With the guys coming back who couldn’t bowl this past season, and a few commitments from current high school seniors, we should be in pretty good shape. We do have a few spots remaining on the team and hope to announce more signings in the near future. Several spots remain open on the women’s team.”
