Amsterdam holds off Braves for 70-59 victory

FONDA –In a battle of unbeaten Montgomery County League teams, Amsterdam built on a strong opening-quarter surge to defeat Fonda-Fultonville 70-59 in action Wednesday night at Fonda-Fultonville High School.
Yandeel Vazquez led Amsterdam with 22 points, while Tyrell Douglas hit for 16 points and Jhai Vellon added 14 points. The Rams hit 10 3-pointers in the game with Vellon and Douglas hitting three apiece.
Nick Hastings paced Fonda-Fultonville with his double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Jackson Cusack had 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists to go with 11 points, five rebounds and three steals from Connor Weaver.

NORTHVILLE — The Falcons outscored Johnstown 12-5 in the third quarter to take the lead and held on for their first win of the season, 52-49, Wednesday night at Northville High School.
Jacob Frank led Northville with 31 points, while Daniel VanNostrand had eight points and Wyatt Sira and Garrett Shepard hit for six points apiece. Andrew Cordone closed out the Northville scoring with a point.
Steven VanNostrand paced Johnstown with 22 points, while Cody Massey and Kyle Everest had eight points apiece and Braden Jones finished with seven points. Caden Mureness and Camron Van Slyke rounded out the Sir Bills’ scoring with two points each.
Northville (1-2) will host Gloversville (1-2) Friday night, while Johnstown (0-2) will host Broadalbin-Perth (3-0) Friday.

MAYFIELD — Broadalbin-Perth took control under the boards in the second half to pull away for the Fulton County League victory over Mayfield Wednesday night at Mayfield High School.
The Patriots (3-0) outrebounded Mayfield 22-12 in the second half, leading to a 29-17 scoring advantage to lock up the 56-40 victory.
Jadon Wert led Broadalbin-Perth with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, while Jackson Sassanella hit three 3-pointers in his 18-point effort and Ryan Visco finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
Mayfield was led by Kyle Capparello’s 11-point performance, while Aidan Halloran had nine points and eight rebounds and Britain Goodemote chipped in with six points.
Broadalbin-Perth will put its unbeaten record on the line Friday night at Johnstown, while Mayfield will host Johnstown at 12:30 on Saturday.
