Patriots open season with win over Gloversville

BROADALBIN — The Gloversville and Broadalbin-Perth boys basketball teams are used to battling each other in the Foothills Council.

Thursday night, the rivals played their first game of a short season in the Fulton County Basketball League.

The Patriots used a strong 15-4 second-quarter run to build a 15-point halftime lead and held off a fourth-quarter surge by Gloversville for a 53-42 victory.

Jadon Wert led the Broadalbin-Perth scoring with 16 points, while Matthew Perry finished with 11 points and Michael Magliocca added nine points and nine rebounds.

James Collar paced the Dragons with a 20-point effort that included three 3-pointers and nine rebounds. Gio Glionna pulled down 15 rebounds to go with seven points and two blocked shots and Garrett Dooling finished with six points and three rebounds.

Broadalbin-Perth (1-0) is scheduled to return to action Saturday when it hosts Northville (0-0). Gloversville (0-1) is scheduled to host Mayfield (0-0) Saturday.

Amsterdam 64, Ft Plain 59

FORT PLAIN — The Fort Plain Hilltoppers rallied for 21-fourth quarter points, but could not erase a 13-point Amsterdam lead as they came up short as the Rams held on for a 64-59 victory Thursday night at the Harry Hoag Middle School.

After being held to four points in the first half, Robert Jordan poured in 22 second-half points to lead the Hilltoppers with 26 points, while Trey Nemecek finished with 12 points and Levi Thomas had seven points.

Yandeel Vazquez paced Amsterdam with 15 points, while Jhai Vellon finished with 13 and Tyrell Douglas chipped in with 10.

Amsterdam (4-0) is scheduled to host Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (0-4) Monday, while Fort Plain (2-3) will travel to play Canajoharie (1-4) Monday.

FONDA — Jackson Cusack hit three 3-pointers in a 17-point, four assist performance to lead Fonda-Fultonville to victory over Canajoharie Thursday night at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

Nick Hasting connected for 14 points for the Braves, while Colin Kowalski also hit three 3-pointers in his 12-point effort and Connor Weaver pulled down seven rebounds.

Jack Montanye led Canajoharie with eight points, while Zach Suits, Greg Shariff and Richie Tamsett scored four points apiece and Robert Fairley added three points for the Cougars.

Canajoharie (1-4) will host Fort Plain (2-3) Monday, while Fonda-Fultonville (4-0) and Amsterdam (4-0) will square off Wednesday night at Fonda-Fultonville High School.
