Queensbury sweeps Johnstown Nordic Invy

BENSON –The Queensbury Spartans pulled off a sweep of the team championships at the Johnstown/Guilderland Nordic Ski Invitational Thursday at Lapland Lake.

The Spartans dominated the boys meet, defeating runner-up Saratoga 7-24, while the Queensbury girls won the girls varsity meet over Johnsburg 12-39.

Host Johnstown placed seventh in the boys competition with 86 points, while the girls posted an incomplete score.

Due to the school being on pause, Mayfield did not participate in the meet.

Queensbury’s Lucas Jenkin picked up the victory in the varsity boys race with his time of 24:34.3 over the 7K course, while teammate Sam Rowley placed second with a time of 24:41. Shenendehowa’s Philip Matthews broke up a sweep of the top four spots by the Spartans with his third-place finish in 25:18.4. Queensbury’s Ben Jenkin and Liam Rodewald round of the top five.

Trey Naselli was the top finisher for Johnstown, placing 20th with a time of 31:25.9. Jayden Elston placed 30th for the Sir Bills with a time of 35:15.2, while Garrett Bobowski was 36th with a 36.35.5 and Gus Fagan placed 42nd with a time of 43:00.1.

Hadley’s Katrin Schreiner picked up the victory in the 7K varsity girls race with her time of 27:00.6. Queensbury’s Raina Guay was runner-up with a time of 30:14.6, while Shenendehowa’s Iris Wiedmann placed third with a time of 31:12.8. Queensbury’s Julia Keshmira (32:20.5) and Johnsburg’s Avery Bayse (32:36.4) round out the top five.

Hannah Maxson was the top finisher for the Johnstown girls, finishing 21st with a time of 43:33.9 and Nicole Simon placed 24th for the Lady Bills with a time of 45:31.9.
