Fonda-Fultonville boys, Mayfield girls win WAC titles

Braves Viscosi, Lady Panthers’ Relyea capture individual titles

FORT PLAIN — The Fonda-Fultonville boys and Mayfield girls successfully defended their Western Athletic Conference championship meet titles Saturday at the Fort Plain Sports Complex at the Harry Hoag Elementary School.

The Fonda-Fultonville boys collected their third-straight WAC championship, getting past Mayfield 22-36, while the Mayfield girls notched their second-straight championship, edging Fonda-Fultonville 59-61.

The Lady Panthers’ Madison Relyea collected her fifth-straight WAC girls championship, touring the three mile course 19:0748 on a cold, blustery day. Fonda-Fultonville’s Haley Clear was runner-up with her time of 20:33.15, while Duanesburg’s Olivia Harris placed third in 20:44.30, Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Middleburgh’s Michelle Puzulis was fourth in 21:04.70 and Fonda-Fultonville’s Isabella Miller rounded out the top five with her time of 21:27.79.

After back-to-back runner-up finishes in the WAC championship meet, Fonda-Fultonville’s Shane Viscosi broke through to win Saturday’s meet with a time of 16:46.49, while Mayfield’s Cameron Abdella was second in 16:57.86, followed by the Braves’ Bennett Melita and Mathieu Dettenreider finishing third and fourth with times of 17:02.80 and 17:41.08 respectively. Mayfield’s Braydon Jourden completed the top five with his time of 18:00.74.

The Braves and Panthers combined to sweep the top 12 spots in the boys meet.
