Braves, Panthers sweep into WAC Championships

FORT PLAIN — The Fonda-Fultonville cross-country teams completed a sweep of Canajoharie-Fort Plain and Galway in a Western Athletic Conference meet Saturday at the Fort Plain Sports Complex at the Harry Hoag Elementary School.

The Braves turned in the top times to sweep the top six spots in the finishing order, whole put all five of their scorers in the top 10 to take both team titles.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Shane Viscosi turned in a winning time of 17:00 over the three-mile course. Bennett Melita (17:14), Matthieu Dettenrider (17:46), 4. Ty Sanges (19:12) and Trevor Cline (19:16) complete the scoring for the Braves.

Casey Clark was the top finisher for Galway with his eight-place run in 20:10, while Ty Perue was the top Canajoharie-Fort Plain finisher, placing 10th with a time of 20:32.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Haley Clear posted a fast time of 20:43 to win the girls race, while Galway’s Emma Jordan was second overall with a 21:42.

The Lady Braves’ Isabella Miller was third with a time of 22:02, while Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Olivia Schaeffer (22:24), Emma Karker (22:37) and Sophie Xiao (22:50) finished fourth through sixth.

The Mayfield boys swept the team titles, while the Lady Panthers split with Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Duanesburg Saturday at Mayfield High School.

The Panthers put the top five runners across the line with Cameron Abdella leading the way with a time of 15:54. Trevor Ruberti (16:53), Braydon Jourden (16:54), Hunter Jones (17:20) and Dawson Leach (17:57) completed the top five finishers for Mayfield.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Tim Jackson placed sixth with a time of 17:57, while Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville’s Armand Root placed seventh with a time of 17:59 and Duanesburg’s Murphy Hyde placed eighth in 18:25.

In Foothills Council action, Schuylerville defeated Amsterdam and Gloversville split with Hudson Falls.

Amsterdam’s Trevor Dzikowicz won the boys race with a time of 17:12.4, while the Black Horses took the next five spots with Patrick McGloine leading the way with his second-place finish in 17:25.5.

Megan Vianese led a pack of six runners at the top of the finish in the girls race with her time of 19:55.

Brooke Marshall was the top finisher for Amsterdam, placintg seventh with a time of 23:13.7.

The Gloversville girls gave Andrew Ficilli his first victory as varsity coach, beating Hudson Falls, while the Hudson Falls boys defeated the Huskies.

Caleb Tamez and Peter Dudley led the Tigers, placing first and second with times of 20:37.5 and 21:07.6 respectively.

Caleb Port and John Heimer led Gloversville, placing third and fourth overall with times of 21:40.5 and 21:41.2 respectively.

Hudson Falls’ Seneca Williamson was the top finisher in the girls race with a time of 23:27.5.

Gloversville’s Brooke Dutcher and Anna Murphy placed second and third with time of 23:45.1 and 23:56.4 respectively.

In Center State Conference action Saturday, Dolgeville split with West Canada Valley.

Dolgeville’s Jayden Kamp turned in a fast time of 20:38 to win the boys race and West Canada Valley’s Catherine Chrstensen won the girls race with a time of 23:00.

Louis Clarke was the highest finisher for the West Canada Valley boys with a time of 22:25, while Ainsley Billings was the top finisher for the Dolgeville girls with her third-place finish in 25:38.
