Royal Mountain wraps up supercross season

CAROGA LAKE — A field of 151 riders was in attendance for the final night of Monster Energy Supercross competition Wednesday at Royal Mountain Ski Area.

Several area riders closed out their seasons with wins in their respective classes.

Johnstown’s Hayden Zelich, Fonda’s Charles Rose, Gloversville’s Sal Attigliato Jr., Johnstown’s Brennan Hart, Amsterdam’s Matthew Hirschfeld, Johnstown’s Kip Simonds, Fultonville’s Kendra Cary, Johnstown’s Bennett Melita and Amsterdam’s Kolby Krutz.

Melita was second in both of his first motos before rebounding to win both second motos to claim the win in the mini 80 12-to-15-year-old and open mini 10-to-16-year-old classes.

Zelich won both motos to pick up the win in the 122-125 two-stroke class. Zelich also was third in the schoolboy class.

Rose won both motos to claim the victory in the 122-open amateur class. Rose also was third in the 122-250 amateur class.

Amsterdam’s Kolby Krutz swept both motos to win the quad novice class. He also was fourth in the pit bike class.

Hirschfeld swept both motos to win the quad amateur class, while Cary won both motos to claim victory in the quad schoolboy class.

Attigliato won both motos to claim the 50cc 4-to-6-year-old class victory, while Hart swept both motos to win the 50cc 7-and-8-year-old class.

Simonds won both motos to claim the victory in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old class.

In addition to Melita, two other riders claimed wins in multiple classes.

Oneida’s Francis Dieteman won the pit bike and plus-40 amateur classes, while Saratoga Springs’ Isaac Lawyer won the schoolboys and 122-250 novice classes.

Other winners included Howes Cave’s Kenny Chicoski Jr. (122-open novice), East Berne’s Clay Smith (122-250 amateur), Bainbridge’s Corey Burnett (122-250 expert), Eagle Bridge’s Tanner Wolfrum (122-open expert), East Berne’s Finn Smith (mini 60 7-11), Middle Grove’s Kolt Wojtowecz (mini 80 9-11), Saratoga Springs’ Blake Conroy (mini quad 50cc), East Berne’s Alissa Duncan (mini quad 51-90cc), Brunswick’s Joe Falzo (plus-30 amateur), Johnsonville’s Brian Falzo (plus-30 expert),

Several area riders posted top-five finishes.

Galway’s Trevor Patterson was second in the mini 80 12-to-15-year-old class and second in the open mini 10-to-16-year-old class.

Amsterdam’s Aiden Garrison was third in the mini 80 12-to-15-year-old class.

In the quad amateur class, Gloversville’s Tyler Covey was second and Amsterdam’s Justin Richards was third.

Mayfield’s Andrew Ashbey was second in the quad novice class, while Gloversville’s Owen Mormile was fourth.

Amsterdam’s Seth Garrison was second in the 122-open novice class, while St. Johnsville’s Hunter Hickey was fourth.

Garrison also was second in the 122-250 novice class, while Gloversville’s Brandon Groves was fifth.

In the 122-250 amateur class, Gloversville’s Anthony Attigliato was second and Fultonville’s Adam Dutcher was fifth.

Gloversville’s Devin Buyce was second in the 122-125 two-stroke class, while Fort Plain’s Brody Zelezny was second in the 122-250 expert class.

Buyce also was second in the schoolboy class.

St. Johnsville’s Burton Wilson was fourth in the 50cc 4-to-6-year-old class, while St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson was second in the mini quad 50cc class.

In the mini quad 51-90cc class, St. Johnsville’s Kaci Bare was second, Mayfield’s Chloe Vannostrand was third and St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson was fifth.

Broadalbin’s Paul Gifford was fifth in the pit bike class.

In the plus-30 amateur class, Johnstown’s Jared Leto was third and St. Johnsville’s James McNamara was fourth.

Mayfield’s B.J. Smith was third in the plus-30 expert class, while Johnstown’s Michael Ward was fourth.

The next racing action at Royal Mountain will be the first snowmobile drag race of the season, which is set for Dec. 12.
