EPHRATAH — The Caroga Creek RacePark played host to their second double header day of the 2020 season. On the card would be a weekly program of racing in the afternoon with the WCRS and NEPRO Series taking center stage in the evening.
While the afternoon’s feature only program was run off in record time, the evening program had issues with power. To be specific, power to the track lighting system.
The large generator that the track uses for its night shows was not delivered by the company that provides to generators. The result was track owner and promoter Tom Varin spending the entire day and evening trying to get lights to the one-eighth mile oval.
In the end, while the lights would eventually work via three smaller generators, there was no guarantee that they would stay on. So, in the interest of safety and fairness, the series events were postponed to Oct. 3. This date will see double features run for both series as they close out their 2020 schedule. The weekly program will close out its point season the night before. More, non-point special events will be added in the month of October. Further details on these events will be forthcoming.
While the Series events were postponed, Varin did put up cash for each of the Senior classes in attendance. The Stock Heavy, Stock Lite, Clone 360 and Wing Champ Pro classes each ran a 20-lap “Who has the balls” event. Each of these events paid cash in a winner-take-all format. No additional entry fees were collected.
The Caroga Creek RacePark returns to action on Saturday with a weekly program of racing. Gates open at 9 a.m. with practice starting at 11 a.m. and racing at 1 p.m. Due to New York State regulations no spectators are allowed at this time.
