Five area riders post motocross wins at Royal

CAROGA LAKE — Several area riders posted wins this weekend as Royal Mountain Ski Area hosted a two-day Central New York Motocross Racers Association event.

The event used a three-moto format with two motos taking place Saturday and the final moto on Sunday. Riders used their best two finishes to determine their overall finish.

Johnstown’s Hayden Zelich, Fonda’s Tyler Blowers, Johnstown’s Maxx Miller, Fort Plain’s Trevor VanAlstyne and Fonda’s Skyler Olmstead all claimed wins this weekend.

Zelich was second in two of his three motos and first in his third moto to win the 122-125cc two-stroke class. Zelich also was fourth in the 122-open amateur class.

Miller won all three of his motos to win the 65cc 7-to-11-year-old class. Miller also was second in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old class.

Blowers won two of his three motos and was second in the third moto to claim the win in the collegeboy class. He also was fourth in the 122-250cc expert class.

Van Alstyne was second, third and first in his three motos to win the plus-25 amateur class, while Olmstead won two of his three motos to win the quad novice class.

Six riders claimed wins in multiple classes.

Croghan’s Gavin Walseman won the 122-open amateur and 122-250cc amateur classes, while Cassville’s Sam Spinella won the 122-open expert and 122-250cc expert classes.

Petersburg’s Scott Phelps won the plus-40 expert and plus-45 expert classes, Whitney Point’s Trevor David won the 51cc 4-to-8-year-old and 51cc pee wee senior classes, Ravena’s Jack Barry won the open mini 10-to-16-year-old and senior mini 12-to-15-year-old classes and Malone’s Cory Bogett won the plus-30 amateur and plus-40 amateur classes.

In the quad classes, Vernon Center’s Collin Roberts (quad expert), Queensbury’s Mason St. John-Lemery (quad amateur), Pittsford’s Sam Imburgia (quad collegeboy), Clayton’s Joshua Reff (plus-25 quad), Natural Bridge’s Chase Marek (mini quad 50cc production), Delanson’s Madeliene Rose (mini quad (51-90cc production) and Vincent Dillon (quad schoolboy) of Phillipsburg, Pa. picked up victories.

Other winners included Boonville’s Kelly Myers (women 85-250cc), Cobleskill’s Joe Edwards (122-250cc novice), Scotia’s Chad Forstell (122-open novice), Livingston Manor’s Danny Wilson III (junior mini 9-11), Altona’s Shawn Nutt (plus-30 expert), Ghent’s Sebastian Witherell (51cc pee wee junior 4-6), Howes Cave’s Drew Cleveland (plus-25 expert), Cohoes’ Heath Decker (plus-45 amateur) and Cortland’s Gene Nighman (plus 50).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes in their respective classes.

Johnstown’s Michael Ward was second in the plus-40 expert and third in the plus-45 expert classes, while Pattersonville’s Mike Baker was second in the plus-30 and plus-40 amateur class.

St. Johnsville’s Jeremie Angus was third in the plus-40 amateur class, while Fultonville’s Matthew Cary was fifth.

In the mini quad 50cc production class, Johnstown’s Ethan Cornell was second, St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson was fourth and Gloversville’s Eastyn Rizzo was fifth.

Gloversville’s Tyler Rizzo was second in the 51-90cc production class, Cornell was third and Fultonville’s Cayden Cary was fourth.

Gloversville’s Sal Attigliato Jr. was third in the 51cc pee wee junior 4-to-6-year-old class.

Johnstown’s Bennett Melita was second in the senior mini 12-to-15-year-old class, while Gloversville’s Evan Tucker was fourth. Melita also was second in the open mini 10-to-16-year-old class, while Pattersonville’s Marc Hartje was third. Hartje also was second in the schoolboy class, while Dygert was fifth. Dygert also was fourth in the 122-125cc two-stroke class.

Fultonville’s Sheldon Wayman was third in the collegeboy class. Johnstown’s Ian Cary was fifth in the quad schoolboy class and Gloversville’s Salvatore Attigliato was fifth in the plus-25 expert class.

Broadalbin’s Ryan Rose was third in the plus-25 amateur class, Johnstown’s J.T. Vietri was fifth in the 122-open amateur class, Fonda’s Charles Rose was third in the 122-250cc novice class and Johnstown’s Kip Simonds was fifth in the 65cc 7-to-11-year-old class.

Royal Mountain will be back in action Wednesday, when it hosts Monster Energy Supercross competition.
