Royal Mtn. racers post solid showings
CAROGA LAKE — The Royal Mountain racing team posted solid showing March 7 and 8 in two separate events.
The younger age groups competed at the Kandahar races at McCauley Mountain in Old Forge. Samantha Sandel, Carson Cheney, Noah Stock, and Jakob Hanna qualified for the Kandahar Championship race at Greek Peak in Cortland, which was scheduled for last weekend before it was postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
Samantha Sandel was ninth in the Kombi event March 7 in the U12 girls division, while Sylvia Slingerland was 11th.
Stock was eighth in the boys U12 division in the Kombi event, while Tanner Sandel was disqualified and Carson Cheney did not finish.
Kosta Vahaviolos was 12th in the U10 boys division, while Wyatt Cox was 26th. Jakob Hanna was disqualified in the boys U14 division.
In the giant slalom event March 8, Samantha Sandel was seventh in the U12 division and Slingerland was ninth.
Hanna was second in the U14 boys division, while Vahaviolos was 16th in the U10 boys division and Cox did not finish.
In the U12 boys division, Carson Cheney was fifth, Stock was 17th and Tanner Sandel was 20th.
Carter Cheney competed in the U14 State Championships at Holimont in Ellicottville. He placed 47th in Super-G, 21st in giant slalom, and
ninth in slalom. Cheney qualified for the U14 Eastern Finals that were supposed to take place in late March at West Mountain. However, that event was postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
