Fort Plain honors winter sports teams

FORT PLAIN — The Fort Plain winter varsity and junior varsity sports teams were recognized at a reception March 5 in the junior-senior school auditorium.

The boys basketball Board of Education Second Effort Award went to Joe LeMoine, while Caelan Germond earned the D’Arcangelis Super Sub Award. Ethan Schoch was selected for the Western Athletic Conference Exceptional Senior Game. Troy Butler and Robert Jordan were named first-team WAC Mohawk Division all-stars, while Levi Thomas was named honorable mention.

Sarah Florian earned the Most Valuable Player and Rebounding awards for the girls basketball team, while Tiffany Hazzard earned the Board of Education Second Effort Award. Bella Page earned the Most Improved and Scholar Athlete Awards. She also was selected for the WAC Exceptional Senior Game.

Rylee Herron (D’Arcangelis Super Sub Award), Erin Crouse (Defensive Player), Sarah Vanasse (Impact Player), Madeline Heroth (Coach’s Award) and Ryleigh Hart (Rookie of the Year) also earned girls basketball awards.

The boys bowling team won the WAC team title and the Hilltoppers also placed fourth at the Section II Class C-D Tournament.

Boys bowling awards went to Brady Fureno (MVP), Landen VanAlstine (Board of Education Second Effort Award), Anthony Paradiso (Most Improved, high single at Section II Class C-D Tournament) and Chris Burgess (Sixth Man Award). Fureno was named a first-team WAC all-star, while Zack Young and Paradiso were named to the second team.

The Fort Plain girls bowling team was second at the WAC Tournament and third at the Section II Class C-D Tournament.

Gabby Jenks had the high triple at the WAC tournament. Jenks and Emma Oldick were named first-team WAC all-stars, while Rachel Zuppardi was named to the second team.

Jenks was named the girls bowling MVP. Oldick earned the girls bowling Board of Education Second Effort Award, Sarah Paradiso (Most Improved) and Shantel Kretser (Sixth Woman Award) also earned girls bowling honors.

Ethan Kilmartin earned the Board of Education Second Effort Award for the Canajoharie-Fort Plain wrestling team, while Ethan Gallt earned the swimming Board of Education Second Effort Award. Matt Travis was named the swim team’s MVP.

Madison Delgado claimed the Board of Education Second Effort Award for Cheerleading, while Jenna Paddon, Taylor Hoffman and Jasmine Rouse were selected to participate in the WAC Exceptional Senior Game.

The girls bowling, boys bowling, cheerleading, girls basketball and boys basketball teams also were honored as New York State Public High School Athletic Association scholar-athlete teams.

Family members and friends of the winter varsity and junior varsity sports teams were invited to attend.
