H.S. Volleyball Roundup: FFCS gets past Mayfield

MAYFIELD — Marilyn Whitcavitch finished with 10 kills and four aces to lead Fonda-Fultonville to a 3-0 victory over Mayfield in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match at Mayfield High School on Tuesday.

The Lady Braves won by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-19.

Krystal McSpirit had six blocks and five kills for Fonda-Fultonville, Julia Bagnardi had 17 assists and two aces, and Peyton Zilles added 10 aces.

Deandra Myers posted 12 digs, eight service points, six kills and three aces to lead Mayfield, while Jordan Rivenburg had nine digs and four service points.

Alissa Wilbur notched five kills and one block for the Lady Panthers, Lila King posted 16 digs, eight assists and one block, and Julia Fitzgerald recorded six assists. Morgan Mraz added a block for the Lady Panthers.

Mayfield (4-5 overall, 3-3 WAC) is slated to travel to Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville on Thursday for a 4;30 p.m. match.

Fonda-Fultonville (6-2 overall, 6-2 WAC) is scheduled to host Johnstown in a non-league match Thursday at 6 p.m.

Galway 3, Mekeel Christian 0

SCOTIA — Hannah Hoffman posted 16 service points, 15 assists and two aces to lead Galway to a WAC victory over Mekeel Christian Academy.

The Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-7, 25-19 and 25-10.

Anna Gardner finished with 23 service points, six kills, five aces and three blocks for Galway.

Chloe Ekstein posted seven service points, five assists, three aces and one kills for Mekeel Christian, while Amelia Armao added 10 service points, three aces and two kills.

Galway (8-1 overall, 7-0 WAC) is scheduled to travel to Middleburgh on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.

Mekeel Christian (2-4 overall, 2-4 WAC) is slated to host Canajoharie-Fort Plain on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Schoharie 3, Duanesburg 1

DUANESBURG — Raquel Gerstenberger had 35 service points, eight kills and five aces to help Schoharie to a WAC victory over Duanesburg.

The Indians won by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 24-26 and 25-16.

Delyvette Vegaschrom posted 14 assists for Schoharie, while Alyssa Vangasbeck added nine kills.

Madison Meyer had 10 points and six kills for Duanesburg, Hannah Boehlke posted seven service points and three kills, and Jahnna Palluti added eight service points.

Bishop Gibbons 3, Berne-Knox-Westerlo 0

BERNE — Alexis Bye finished with 12 assists to lead Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons to a WAC victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

The Golden Knights won by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-19.

Abigail Verhayden posted 11 digs for Bishop Gibbons, Christina Brown had seven kills, and Abigail Hamilton added five kills.
