FMCC volleyball opens its season

WATERTOWN — The Fulton-Montgomery Community College women’s volleyball team opened its season Saturday at the Jefferson Invitational.

The Lady Raiders went 1-2 on the day, falling to Finger Lakes and Monroe, and beating Cayuga.

In the first match of the day, FMCC fell to Finger Lakes Community College, 2-0 by scores of 25-21 and 25-12. Danika Dygon led the Raiders with seven kills and Macenzie Ward followed with five. Emily Mormando tallied four digs, seven assists and two blocks for FMCC

In the second match, the Raiders bounced back for a 2-0 victory over Cayuga Community College by scores of 25-13 and 25-15 victory. Ward tallied seven kills for FMCC, Mallory Baldwin led with seven digs and Mormando finished with four assists.

In its final match of the tournament, FMCC dropped a 2-0 decision to Monroe Community College, losing by scores of 25-19 and 25-13.

Dygon had six kills, Baldwin posted nine digs and Mormando with eight assists.

The Raiders will begin Mountain Valley Conference play Wednesday, hosting Herkimer College at 7 p.m.
