Buff powers way to feature win at Glen Ridge

FULTONVILLE — After finishing second five times this year, Andrew Buff broke through for his first feature win of the season in the Red Chair Crate Modified division Sunday night at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

Buff grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and pulled away from Ryan McCartney late in the race to record the victory.

Also picking up his first win of the season and his career in the pro stock division was Andy Graves, while Jerry Cohn picked up the victory in the limited sportsman class and Damon Anderson took home the checkers in the street stock division.

Josh Kane collected the victory in the Dual Overhead Cam 4-cylinder mini stock division, while T.J. Marlitt made a last-lap, final turn pass to take home the win in the Single Overhead Cam feature.

Danny Ballard won the All-Star Senior Slingshot main event, while Brock “Bam Bam” Pickerous held off Tavien Blowers for the Northeast Paving and Sealcoating Junior Slingshot feature win.

Ryan Heath and Buff brought the Crate Modified field to the green with Buff gaining the advantage over Heath heading into turn one.

McCartney worked his way into second on lap four, leaving Heath to battle with Scott McCoy, Jim Introne Jr. and JaMike Sowle for the third spot.

Buff was brought back to the field on a lap 19 caution and was able to handle McCartney’s challenge on the restart to keep his lead over McCartney, Introne and McCoy.With a clear track in front of him for the final 10 laps, Buff pulled away for his first victory of the season, McCartney held on for second over Introne, Joe Orlando, McCoy. David Richter, Sowle, Bill August, Heath and David Boisclar round out the top 10.

Graves used his front row starting spot to his advantage, taking the lead at the drop of the green with Buck Gasner and Jim Normoyle pressuring him for the lead.

A lap 11 caution brought Ivan Joslin alongside Graves on the restart, but Graves had enough to hold onto the lead over Joslin, while David Demorest picked his way into third with Devon Camenga and Steve Cosselman in pursuit.

Graves stayed steady on the front end to earn his first career pro stock feature win. Joslin was second, followed by Demorest, Cosselman and Camenga. Justin Knight, Luke Horning, Beau Ballard, Gasner and Jim Gronki complete the top 10.

Blowers set the early pace in the Junior Slingshot feature with Pickerous moving to the front on the third lap. Blowers made a strong bid for the lead on lap seven but had the move negated by a caution. Pickerous maintained his lead on the restart and picked up his sixth feature win of the season. Blowers was second followed by Corky Warner, Connor Hill, Tucker Jones and Evan O’Hara.

Mike Hill and Ballard battled side-by-side through the second half of the 15-lap All-Star Senior Slingshot main event with Ballard gaining the advantage with five laps to go and post his fourth feature win of the season. Hill was second with Brett Putman third, Mike Bellinger fourth and Tyler Vadney fifth.

Racing returns to The Ridge next Sunday when the modifieds put on sail panels and run for $2,500-to-win in the 50-lap “VENGEANCE.” The winner also will pick up a starting spot in the Fonda 200 on Sept. 28 at Fonda Speedway.

Glen Ridge Motorsports Park will honor its 2019 Hall of Fame inductees, Bill Nelson, Denny Tilison, the VanAernam Family, Butchie Irving and Bob Niemetz, during ceremonies during intermission.

Also on the race card for the night will be the NY6a 600 Sprint Tour along with a full regular program of features.
