Bowles named FM cross-country coach

JOHNSTOWN — Jim Bowles has been selected as the head coach for the Fulton-Montgomery Community College men’s and women’s cross-country program.

Coach Bowles is a native of Amsterdam and brings over 50 years of coaching experience to FM.

He is a graduate from The University of California at Sacramento where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history and sociology. He holds his master’s degree from the University of Arkansas.

During his tenure Coach Bowles has coached at Siena, Sage and most recently, Hudson Valley Community College. He was named NJCAA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1996 and led his teams to a first and second team finish at Nationals in that same year. Most recently, he was tabbed the 2019 NJCAA Track and Field women’s assistant coach of the year.

Bowles is still an active runner himself and very involved in the sport. He has qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials three times.

“I am excited to be joining Fulton-Montgomery Community College Athletic Department and grateful for this opportunity to lead the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams. Athletic Director Kevin Jones made me feel totally at home from the moment I stepped on the campus. I look forward to developing a strong student-athlete program, which allow our graduates to excel in their future endeavors in and outside the classroom,” said Bowles.
