Mohawks outlast Utica in extra innings

AMSTERDAM — Paul Franzoni scored on a two-out single by Max Costes in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Amsterdam to a 4-3 victory over Utica in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest at Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park.

Amsterdam led 3-0 heading into the ninth before the Blue Sox forced extra innings by scoring three runs.

Costes finished 3-for-5 for the Mohawks, while Michael Turconi was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. JD Mundy was 2-for-3 for Amsterdam.

Tyler Simon had a single, double and scored a run for Utica, while Robbie Young and Luis Deleon each had a single and scored a run.

Amsterdam (8-2 overall) is scheduled to travel to Watertown today for a 7:05 p.m. contest.

Utica (7-4 overall) is slated to host Newark today at 6:35 p.m.
