Grand slam lifts Albany to win over Amsterdam
ALBANY — Less than 24 hours after posting a 3-2 walk-off win over Albany, the Amsterdam Mohawks had the tables turned on them Saturday.
The Dutchmen earned the one-run victory this time around, posting a 5-4 walk-off win over Amsterdam in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest at Siena Field.
Albany trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth before scoring four runs to claim the win.
Aaron Roose delivered the game-winning hit, belting a one-out grand slam for the Dutchmen.
Tommy Pellis and Ryan McGee each had single and scored a run for Albany, while Mitchell Henshaw, Justin Bench and Mike Whalen all had singles.
Three of the Dutchmen’s six hits came in the ninth inning.
Gloversville graduate Aaron Dona earned the win on the mound for the Dutchmen.
Dona struck out one, walked none and allowed no hits in the top of the ninth.
JD Mundy had a triple, single and scored a run for Amsterdam, while Dalton Reese had a single and scored a run. Sam Zayicek, Johnny Decker and Kevin Jimenez all had singles for the Mohawks.
Drew Wilden took the loss for Amsterdam, allowing three hits, four earned runs, striking out one and walking one in the bottom of the ninth.
Amsterdam (17-4 overall) is slated to travel to Saugerties today for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
Albany is set to host Glens Falls in a doubleheader today. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
