FORT PLAIN — Troy Butler pitched a one-hitter to help second-seeded Fort Plain to a 10-0 victory over seventh-seeded Hoosic Valley in the quarterfinals of the Section II Class C baseball tournament Saturday.

Butler, who improved to 7-0 on the season, struck out seven in five innings of work.

“Troy pitched just like he’s been pitching all year,” Fort Plain coach Craig Phillips said.

It was the second straight five-inning, 10-run, mercy rule victory for the Hilltoppers who posted a 10-0 victory over 15th-seeded Rensselaer on Friday.

“I don’t like the 10-run rule. It doesn’t give the subs a chance to get in,” said Phillips who registered his 795th career win.
