H.S. Baseball Roundup: Braves clinch sectional spot

FONDA — With rain wiping out Friday’s Western Athletic Conference game, the Fonda-Fultonvile Braves played a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Braves took on Duanesburg in the regularly scheduled game first, then took the field as the visitors in the second game against Mayfield.

Fonda-Fultonville turned back Duanesburg in the opener 7-2 before clinching a spot in the Section II Class B post-season tournament with an 11-1 victory over the Panthers.

Massimo DiCaprio struck out 12 Duanesburg batters and Derek Duval came on to strike out three more in a combined two-hit victory.

DiCaprio added two hits and three RBIs to his game credits, while Cade Kearns had a single and an RBI and Brady Myles, Justin Kearns, Matt Zumbolo and Charlie Susi all singled.

Andrew Drescher and John Grant singled to account for Duanesburg’s hits and Matt Gentile picked up two RBIs.

Against Mayfield, Brady Myles had two singles and two RBIs, while DiCaprio had a single and an RBI and Justin Kearns added two singles.

Myles Andersen, Dylan Hamlen, Riley Cole, Zumbolo and Cade Kearns all singled.

Colin Hennessy was 2-for-2 with two singles for Mayfield, while Colby Brandon had a single.

With the victories, Fonda-Fultonville improves to 9-5 overall and 8-3 in the WAC, while Mayfield falls to 1-9 in the WAC and Duanesburg drops to 3-9 in the league.

GALWAY — Canajoharie put up four runs in the top of the fourth and held off a seventh-inning rally from the Eagles to take home the WAC victory Saturday from Galway High School.

Josh Herget doubled And picked up an RBI for the Cougars, while Jack Krug had two singles and Isiah Logan had a single and two RBIs.

Joe Herbst connected for a two-run home run for Galway, while Mike Sowle had a double, single and an RBI and Alex Malanoski had a single and an RBI.

Wells 9, Indian Lake/Long Lake 8

WELLS — The Indians turned back a late-game rally by Indian Lake/Long Lake to take the season series with the Orange.

Tyler Bolebruch started for Wells and gave up two runs before leaving the mound after six innings. Bolebruch re-entered in relief to shut down the Orange and preserve the victory.

Colby Stuart had three hits and scored three runs for Wells, while Shane Kennedy had two hits and three RBIs.

Wells is scheduled to travel to Johnsburg for a league game today.
