Area riders post solid showings at Twister Valley

FORT PLAIN — Through the first two events of the season, Mother Nature has gotten the best of Twister Valley Sports Complex.

The track’s first event of the season, scheduled for April 28 was canceled and weather shortened the first race of the season Sunday.

All classes in Sunday’s Central New York Motocross Racers Association event completed just one of the two scheduled motos due to the wet weather conditions.

Three area riders claimed wins on Sunday.

Johnstown’s Maxx Miller won the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old and 65cc 7-to-11 two-stroke classes, while Fultonville’s T.J. Chicoski won the plus-40 expert and plus-45 expert classes.

Johnstown’s Bennett Melita won the senior mini 12-to-15-year-old class.

In addition to Miller and Chicoski, five other riders claimed wins in multiple classes Sunday.

Ravena’s Dan Barry picked up wins in the collegeboy and 122-250cc novice classes, Cropseyville’s Xzavier Halse won the 51cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class and the 51cc open 4-to-8-year-old class, Clayville’s Chad Hartman won the plus-25 amateur and plus-30 amateur classes, and LaFayette’s Skyler Shute won the schoolboy and 122-250cc amateur classes.

Schenevus’ Thomas Snyder won the quad amateur and quad schoolboy classes.

In the other quad classes, Edmeston’s Corey Simmons (quad novice), Edmeston’s Mike Talbot (quad expert), Windsor’s Brandon Avery (plus-25 quad), New Berlin’s Lucas Etzl (mini quad 50cc production), Wallkill’s Colten Gillespie (mini quad 51-90cc production) and East Worcester’s Remington Shafer (quad schoolboy)

Other winners included Ghent’s Sebastian Witherell (51cc pee wee junior 4-6, West Winfield’s Andrew Tripple (plus-30 expert), Mount Upton’s Jeffery Burnett (plus-50), Gansevoort’s Ryder Abare (122-250 two-stroke) and Bainbridge’s Robbie Burnett (122-open novice).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes.

Fonda’s Tim Wilmot was second in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old class and fourth in the open mini class.

In the 122-250 two-stroke class, Gloversville’s Reid Persch was third and Fultonville’s Ryley Cary was fourth.

Johnstown’s J.T. Vietri was third in the 122-250cc novice class and fourth in the 122-open novice class.

Twister Valley is scheduled to host its first nightcross event of the season July 19 and its second CNYMRA event of the season on July 21.
