Amsterdam wins tourney

GLOVERSVILLE — The Amsterdam Lady Rams defeated host Mayfield and Hoosic Valley to take home the winner’s trophy at the annual Mayfield Softball Tournament played at Gloversville High School Saturday.

The Lady Rams won the opening game 10-3 over Mayfield.

Madsion Carmona had a double to go with an RBI and three runs scored while Jordyn Wozniak had two singles and an RBI and Sydney Szczepanik had a triple.

Jillian Botch led Mayfield with a double and two RBIs.

In the second game, Hoosic Valley edged Salem 2-1 to earn a spot in the championship game.

Amsterdam put up three runs in the third inning of the title game and added a fourth in the seventh to pick up the championship.

Megan LaMont had a triple and a single to go with an RBI and a run scored. Shelby LaMont connected for a two-run home run and Wozniak had a solo home run and a single for Amsterdam. Szczepanik, who was named the tournament MVP, struck out six and gave up one earned run to pick up the win in the circle for the Lady Rams.

In the consolation game, Salem defeated Mayfield 15-8.

Kaitlyn Dunlavey had a home run, triple, single and three RBIs for Salem, while Kyndra Riche had a double and two singles.

Taryn LaFontaine had a home run and two singles for Mayfield, while Lindsey Hampton finished with three singles and two RBIs.
