OESJ rallies for 8-5 league win over Galway

ST. JOHNSVILLE — The Galway Golden Eagles pounded out 10 hits but it was not enough as Oppenheim-Ephratah made the most of their scoring opportunities to record an 8-5 victory in Western Athletic Conference baseball action Monday at Soldier and Sailors Park.

The game was tied at 5 in the bottom when Travis Lafountain singled on a 2-0 pitch to drive in what proved to be the game-winning run. The Wolves added two more runs and Jack Brundage shut down the Eagles in the top of the seventh to secure the victory and extend OESJ’s early-season win streak to five.

Tyler Leon started on the mound for OESJ and went 4 2/3 innings, striking out six, walking four and allowing five runs on nine hits. Brundage came on to strike out one, walk two and allow one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Henry Flint got the start for Galway and went 5 1.3 innings striking out five, walking two and allowing eight runs on eight hits. Josh Jankowski came on in relief to strike out the final two OESJ batters.

Brundage added two singles to his game credits, while Lafountain and Nick Grant both singled and had two RBIs and Mason Snell, Von Baker and Tyler Leon all drove in runs with singles.

Erik Malanoski led Galway with a double, single, RBI and run scored, while Alex Malanoski had two singles, two runs scored and an RBI and Christian Hines had two singles.

With the victory the Wolfpack improves to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the WAC.

BERNE — The Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit to pick up with 4-3 victory on Caiden Larsen’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Dan McCarty took the loss for Mekeel Christian, despite striking out 14 batters. Mike Show had three hits for the Lions.

Larsen had three singles for BKW, including the game-winner, while Cardell Iarusso had a triple and a single for BKW. Quinn Toomey picked up the complete game victory for the Bulldogs allowing five hits and striking out 11.
