Royal Mountain racers compete in two-day event
TRUXTON — The Royal Mountain Racing Team competed at the Kandahar Festival last weekend at Labrador Mountain.
Carson Cheney of Johnstown won the boys U10 Kombi race on Saturday and finished second in the giant slalom event Sunday.
Jill Sandel of Gloversville placed third in girls U14 Kombi and fourth in giant slalom.
Both Cheney and Sandel qualified for the Kandahar Championship Race this weekend at Toggenburg Mountain in Fabius.
Other top-10 Royal Mountain finishers included Samantha Sandel of Gloversville with seventh-place finishes in both Kombi and giant slalom for girls U12, Andrew Lake of Johnstown was ninth in boys U14 giant slalom and Meghan Buffaline of Ballston Spa was ninth in girls U14 Kombi.
Lake did not finish in the Kombi event, while Buffaline was disqualified in the giant slalom.
In the girls U10 division, Broadalbin’s Molly Cook was 10th in the giant slalom and 12 in the Kombi.
Gloversville’s Tanner Sandel was 12th in the boys U10 Kombi and 17th in the giant slalom, while Kosta Vahaviolos was 25th in the giant slalom and he was disqualified in the Kombi event.
Johnstown’s Jakob Hanna was 15th in the U12 boys giant slalom and he was disqualified in the Kombi event, while Johnstown’s Noah Stock was 25th in the U12 boys Kombi event and 28th in the giant slalom.
