Several area teams earn state rankings
With the fall sports season winding down, several area football and soccer teams are ranked among the best in the state in the New York State Sportswriters rankings.
Local teams earning state rankings in the latest poll include the Mayfield boys’ soccer team, ranked 19th in the Class C poll and the Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville boys’ team that earned the 11th spot in the Class D rankings.
The Canajoharie girls soccer team is ranked 11th and Dolgeville received Honorable Mention in the Class C rankings, while Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville is ranked sixth and Northville received honorable mention in the Class D poll.
In football, Dolgeville is ranked fifth in the state Class D rankings.
Section II football teams receiving nods in the Class AA rankings include Shaker (10th), Shenendehowa (25th) Saratoga Springs (28th) and Guilderland (HM).
In Class A, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake is ranked fourth with Queensbury 13th, Averill Park 19th and Columbia received Honorable Mention.
Glens Falls is the top Section II squad with its No. 7 ranking. Schuylerville is 16th, Schalmont 17th and Cobleskill-Richmondville received Honorable Mention.
Six Section II teams received honors in the Class C rankings. Cambridge/Salem sits at the top of the Class C rankings, while Holy Trinity fifth, Stillwater ninth, Chatham 13th, while Hoosick Falls and Lake George/Hadley Luzerne received honorable mention.
In Class D, Section III’s Dolgeville is ranked fifth in the state, while Section II’s Whitehall received honorable mention.
Section II boys soccer teams in the rankings include Albany (12th), CBA (17th) and Bethlehem (20th) in the Class AA rankings, while Queensbury is ranked first in the state Class A rankings.
Schalmont is ranked fourth and Ichabod Crane 15th in the Class B poll, while Lake George is tops in Class C and Maple Hill is 10th and Fort Ann is seventh in the Class D rankings.
On the girls’ side, Bethlehem is fourth and Shaker 16th, while Shenendehowa received honorable mention in the Class AA rankings.
Queensbury is ranked 10th in the Class A poll with Averill Park 15th and Scotia-Glenville receiving honorable mention.
Schalmont tops the Class B poll with Holy Names fourth, Mechanicville 17th and Catskill 18th.
Stillwater and Lake George are ranked first and second in the Class C rankings, while Fort Ann is eighth in Class D.
