H.S. Volleyball Roundup: Lady Bills shake off slow start, defeat Huskies
GLOVERSVILLE — Macenzie Ward finished with 23 assists and eight digs to lead Johnstown to a 3-1 victory over Gloversville in a Foothills Council volleyball match at Gloversville High School on Tuesday.
The Lady Bills lost the first set 25-20, but rebounded to win the final three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20.
Janay Douglas posted 13 digs and 12 kills for Johnstown (5-3 overall, 5-3 Foothills), while Amber Tesi had five kills and four blocks.
Aireana Muhlberger finished with 10 assists for Gloversville (3-5 overall, 3-5 Foothills), while Maddy Avery posted 12 digs and seven kills. Macey Salvione added 11 digs and six kills for the Huskies.
Gloversville is slated to travel to Broadabin-Perth today for a 6 p.m. contest, while Johnstown is set to travel to Scotia-Glenville on Friday.
Canajoharie-Fort Plain 3, Schoharie 0
FORT PLAIN — Lauren Weinberger registered 19 digs, 10 service points and three aces to lift Canajoharie-Fort Plain to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Schoharie.
C-FP won by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13.
Kayla Mastin had eight kills, seven service points, five aces and two digs for (C-FP (6-2 overall, 5-2 WAC), while Sydney Shepard finished with six kills, three service points and two aces. Sarah Paradiso added 14 assists, four service points, two aces and two digs for Canajoharie-Fort Plain, which is scheduled to travel to Fonda-Fultonville on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.
Racquel Gerstenberger had 13 service points for Schoharie, while Bridget Cipperly added five kills.
Mayfield 3, Fonda-Fultonville 1
FONDA — Mikayla Myers notched 17 kills to power Mayfield to a WAC victory over Fonda-Fultonville.
The Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-23.
Samantha Kent posted 15 kills, 11 digs and two aces for Mayfield (10-1 overall, 7-1 WAC), while Amy Laubenstein finished with 12 digs. Marilyn Whitcavitch recorded 10 kills for Fonda-Fultonville (5-3 overall, 5-3 WAC), while Peyton Zilles had eight aces.
Mayfield is scheduled to host Mekeel Christian Academy on Wednesday, while FFCS is set to host Canajoharie-Fort Plain Wednesday.
Galway 3, OESJ 0
GALWAY — Lindsay Zawisa notched 12 points, nine kills and six aces to power Galway to a Western Athletic Conference victory over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville.
The Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-12.
Kylee Decker posted 12 points and 10 assists for Galway (8-0 overall, 7-0 WAC), while Katy Kurtzner finished with 16 digs and 15 points.
Kendall Oare had three kills for Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (1-5 overall, 1-5 WAC), while Shaina Golladay had four assists.
Kayla Hine added four digs for the Lady Wolves.
