Fo-Jo girls defeat Amsterdam, 91-69

JOHNSTOWN — The Fonda Johnstown varsity girls swim team won eight out of 11 events to win its season opener.

“Winning this meet was a great way to open the newly remodeled Johnstown High School pool,” Fonda-Johnstown coach Ken Hoefs said. “Coach [Nancy] Spagnola and the Amsterdam Sea Rams always give Fonda-Johnstown a competitive exciting meet. We always swim our best times against Amsterdam and that was demonstrated by winning eight out of 11 events.”

Angelina Atwood won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle for Fonda-Johnstown. Alayna Gray (200 individual medley, 500 freestyle) and Sophia Frenyea (200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) also won two events for Fo-Jo, while Julia Norris won the backstroke.

Fonda-Johnstown also won the 200 medley relay as the team of Norris, Frenyea, Gray and Atwood posted a time of 2:13.28.

Juliana Reagan won the 100 butterfly for Amsterdam. The Rams also won the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Mackenzie Farina, Amelia Barkevich, Bella Porter and Kelly Kilgallen posted a time of 2:15.16.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Kilgallen, Farina, Azia Aldi and Anastasia Montalvo won with a time of 4:54.52.

The 1-meter diving event was not contested.
