Boys Soccer Roundup: Johnstown blanks Gloversville, 2-0

JOHNSTOWN — Charlie Brown and Hank Bobbette scored to lead Johnstown to a 2-0 victory over Gloversville in a Foothills Council boys soccer game Friday at Johnstown High School.

Both goals came in the first half for the Sir Bills, who improved to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in Foothills Council play.

Josh Hoyt made 14 saves for the Sir Bills, while Jacob Kataneksza made six saves for Gloversville.

The Dragons slipped to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in Foothills play with the loss.

Johnstown is scheduled to travel to Amsterdam on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest, while Gloversville is scheduled to travel to Queensbury on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. game.

Scotia-Glenville 3, Amsterdam 0

AMSTERDAM — Jared O’Connor scored twice to lift Scotia-Glenville to a Foothills Council victory over Amsterdam at Amsterdam High School.

Aidan Nichter also scored for the Tartans (1-1 overall, 1-1 Foothills)

Dominic Jack made 12 saves for Scotia-Glenville.

Ian Healy made six stops for Amsterdam (0-2 overall, 0-2 Foothills).

South Glens Falls 5, Glens Falls 0

GLENS FALLS — Bobby Bruschini had a hat trick to lead South Glens Falls to a Foothills Council victory over Glens Falls.

Corey Culverhouse had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs, while Andrew King also scored. Colin Parker, Ben Stimpson and Lanning Torebka each had an assist for South Glens Falls (2-2 overall, 2-0 Foothills).

Sebastian Maynard made four saves to post the shutout for South Glens Falls.

Ben Difiore made nine saves for Glens Falls (1-1 Foothills).


Mayfield 3, Waterford-Halfmoon 2

WATERFORD — Britain Goodemote scored the game-winning goal in overtime on an assist from Daniel Leach to lift Mayfield to a victory over Waterford-Halfmoon in its season opener.

Leach and Colby Brandow scored in regulation for the Panthers, while Evan Lehr added an assist.

Nick Rich and Hunter Guertin scored for Waterford-Halfmoon.

Lehr made seven saves in goal for Mayfield, while Bobby Valigorsky made four stops for Waterford-Halfmoon.

Canajoharie 3, Fort Plain 2

CANAJOHARIE — Jake Nowalk, Braden Greenslete and Cody Haig scored to lift Canajoharie to a non-league victory over Fort Plain.

Nick Shariff had two assists for the Cougars.

Troy Butler and Ethan Spaulding scored for Fort Plain, while Jaxson Yacowenia had two assists.

Jared Bentz made 17 saves for Canajoharie.

OESJ 2, Doane Stuart 1

RENSSELAER — Jack Brundage and Mason Snell scored to lift Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a non-league victory over Doane Stuart.

Joey DiPreta scored the lone goal for Doane Stuart.
