Saugerties blanks Amsterdam, 4-0

SAUGERTIES — On Monday night, the Saugerties Stallions defeated the Amsterdam Mohawks 4-0 in Saugerties, in what was the last home game of the season for Saugerties.

A total of 3,121 fans packed into the stands to watch the rival teams go head to head. While Amsterdam was able to string eight hits together, no runs came across home plate.

With Trip Lockhart (Kentucky) in to pitch for Amsterdam and James Gargano (Butler) at the plate, Noah Searcy (Georgia Southern) scored the first Saugerties run after an overthrown ball by Mohawks catcher Joe Genord (South Florida).

Saugerties would add to their lead in the sixth, Searcy, Nick Pastore (Brockport), and Gargano opened up the inning with consecutive singles. They all would score, making it a 4-0 game. Including an RBI-single by Brian Picone (Iona) later in the inning.

Avery Short (Siena) threw seven shutout innings in his first start of the season for Saugerties.

Short earned the victory while the losing pitcher was Lockhart.

Richie Barrella had a double and a single for Amsterdam, while Michael Ludowig and Justin Foscue each had two hits.

Saugerties wraps up its season today at Watertown, while Amsterdam hosts the Albany Dutchmen at Shuttleworth Park today in its regular-season finale.
