Petersen collects three wins at Royal
CAROGA LAKE — Fonda’s Carter Petersen picked up wins in three different classes during Monster Energy Supercross competition Wednesday at Royal Mountain Ski Area.
Petersen won the 122-125 two-stroke, schoolboy and 122-250 novice classes.
Johnstown’s Casey Battisti and Mayfield’s Jordan Miller also claimed wins in multiple classes.
Battisti won the 122-250 expert and 122-open expert classes and Mayfield’s Jordan Miller won the pit bike and quad schoolboy classes.
Other area winners included Gloversville’s Burton Wilson (plus-30 expert), Fort Plain’s Trevor Vanalstyne (122-open novice) and Johnstown’s Hayden Zelich (open mini 10-16).
Zelich also was fourth in the mini 80cc 12- to 15-year-old class.
In addition to Petersen, Miller and Battisti, two other riders claimed wins in multiple classes.
Nicholas Debernardis won the 122-250 amateur and 122-open amateur classes, and Clifton Park’s Gavin Betts won the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old and mini 80cc 9- to 11-year-old classes.
In the quad classes, Delanson’s Madeliene Rose (mini quad 50cc production), East Berne’s Alissa Duncan (mini quad (51-90cc production), Troy’s Peter Miller (quad amateur), Baldwinsville’s Ryan Pyle (quad expert), Ballston Lake’s Blake Wadsworth (quad novice),
Other winners included East Berne’s Finn Smith (50cc pee wee junior 4-6), Auburn’s Giuliano Salinas (50cc pee wee senior 7-8), Scotia’s Brennan Rodecker (mini 60cc 7-11), Cobleskill’s Joe Edwards (mini 80cc 12-15), Fort Edward’s Dustin Peterson (plus-30 amateur) and Yorkville’s Jamie Nimey (plus-40 amateur).
Several area riders posted top-five finishes.
Johnstown’s Adam Handy was second in the 122-250 expert and 122-open expert classes, Nelliston’s Brandon Dygert was fifth in the 122-125 two-stroke class and Gloversville’s Anthony Attigliato was fifth in the 122-250 novice class.
Fonda’s Tyler Blowers was second in the 122-open amateur class and second in the schoolboy class.
In the mini 80cc 12- to 15-year-old class, Johnstown’s Bennett Melita was second and Gloversville’s Devin Buyce was third.
Melita also was second in the open mini 10- to 16-year-old class, while Fonda’s Charles Rose was fifth.
Johnstown’s J.T. Vietri was fourth in the 122-open novice class.
Johnstown’s Maxx Miller was second in the 50cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class and second in the mini 60cc 7- to 11-year-old class.
Fultonville’s Cayden Cary was fifth in the mini 60cc 7- to 11-year-old class.
Fonda’s Tyler Miller was fourth in the mini quad 50cc production class and Mayfield’s Chloe Vannostrand was fourth in the mini quad 51-90cc production class.
Broadalbin’s Anthony Musto was second in the quad novice class, while Mayfield’s Andrew Ashbey was third.
In the plus-30 amateur class, Pattersonville’s Mike Baker was second, Caroga Lake’s Chad Stumpf was third and Gloversville’s Sean Dufel was fourth.
Amsterdam’s Courtney Trombley was second in the quad schoolboy class, while Gloversville’s Austin Sager was second in the pit bike class.
Mayfield’s B.J. Smith was second in the plus-30 expert class, while Johnstown’s Michael Ward was third.
In the plus-40 amateur class, Gloversville’s Keith Orr was second, Gloversville’s Dennis Fitzpatrick was third and Gloversville’s Christopher Royal was fourth.
Broadalbin’s Josh Deuel was third in the quad amateur class and Amsterdam’s Matthew Hirschfeld was fourth.
A total of 150 riders competed Wednesday.
Hillclimb on Sunday
The 36th annual Monster motorcycle, ATV and snowmobile hillclimb will take place Sunday at the Royal Mountain Ski Area.
All hillclimbers must be signed in by 10 a.m. with racing at 11 a.m.
The event is the highlight of the racing season at Royal with more than 200 of the fastest hillclimbers in the country on hand. It is a points-paying event for the New England Hillclimbers Association and the only time they come to New York.
The classes to be run are 50cc, 125cc, 200cc, 400cc, 750cc, open, senior, women’s, ATV, 500 and snowmobiles.
All hillclimbers get two tries at the hill with the fastest time counting.
Royal’s 700-foothill is the longest and roughest on the circuit, a news release said.
Awards are given for the top four in each class and the fastest time of the day.
