Mohawks drop opener at Utica
UTICA — In their Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League opener, the Amsterdam Mohawks lost 11-3 to the Utica Blue Sox at Murnane Field on Friday.
The Blue Sox scored five times in the bottom of the fourth and four times in the bottom of the fifth in their way to the win.
Jacob Randolph, Troy Naab and Joey Preciado combined on a five-hitter for Utica. Randolph earned the win, allowing four hits and one run, striking out three and walking one in five innings.
Naab pitched three innings of hitless relief for the Blue Sox, striking out three and walking none, while Preciado allowed two runs and one hit, striking out one and walking one.
Ben Rhodes had a single and a double for Amsterdam, while Toby Welk had a solo home run, single and an RBI. Matt Padre had a single for the Mohawks’ only other hit.
Amsterdam is scheduled to host Saugerties today in its home opener at 6:35 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
