Area players named Foothills all-stars

Several area softball players were among those named to the Foothills Council all-star team.

Amsterdam freshman Sydney Szczepanik was the area’s lone first-team selection.

Amsterdam’s Megan LaMont (junior), Shelby LaMont (eighth-grader) and Emma Patrei (senior), and Gloversville’s Michaela Ponticello (sophomore) and Jen Vickery (senior) were named to the second team.

Earning honorable-mention status were Amsterdam’s Madison Carmona (junior), Nicole DeRose (junior) and Giuliana Pritchard (senior); and Johnstown’s Joelle Bump (freshman), Alex Thiessen (senior) and Grace Giarrizzo (freshman).

South Glens Falls senior Maddy Capozucca was named the Foothills Council Most Valuable Player. The Bulldogs, who won the league title, had senior Hannah Mosher named a Foothills Council Section II all-star. Sarah Powers, Emily Joss, Celyna Shaw and Leah Vanderwarker were named first-team all-stars for South Glens Falls, while Kasen Lemay and Haylee Scarincio were named to the second team. Aleigha McAllister and Jadin Swartz earned honorable-mention status for the Bulldogs.

Schuylerville had senior Caitlin Kelleher and sophomore Teagan Andrews named Foothills Council Section II all-stars, while senior Chrissy Putnam and senior Emily Vallee were named first-team all-stars.

Junior Grace Pelletier-Hoblock was named to the second team for the Black Horses, while sophomore Molly Elder and senior Katelyn Weed were named honorable mention.

Rounding out the first-team all-stars were Glens Falls junior Stephanie Meehan, Hudson Falls senior Kate LaPan, Queensbury senior Jordan Knapp, Scotia-Glenville senior Grace Purvis and Scotia-Glenville senior Lauren Zeglen.

Glens Falls’ Taylor Scarincio and Callie Woodell were named second-team all-stars, along with Queensbury’s Emma Guilfoil and Jasmin Pepe.

Also named to the second team were Scotia-Glenville’s Megan Charnews, Hudson Falls’ Kate Dunlavey and Scotia-Glenville’s Kelly Mayette.

Queensbury had Samantha Brayton, Megan Chamberlain, Justice Colvin and Karley Hertzner named honorable mention.

Rounding out the honorable-mention selections were Glens Falls’ Lexi Cutter and Mattie Benway; Hudson Falls’ Grace Davis and Maggie Hogan; and Scotia-Glenville’s Jenna Stuart and Mary Zeman.

Broadalbin-Perth did not have any players named to the all-star team.
