FMCC baseball headed to playoffs

JOHNSTOWN — The Fulton-Montgomery Community College baseball team went 2-2 over the weekend in doubleheaders at Jefferson Community College and SUNY Adirondack. The team also clinched a spot in the Region 3 playoffs over the weekend. 

On Sunday, FMCC lost 15-7 in the opening game at SUNY Adirondack before winning the second game, 7-4.

In game one against Jefferson, FMCC fell 12-2. Cory Moore had the lone hit and RBI. 

In game two, FMCC bounced back to win 9-1.  Kyle Sherlock pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits and striking out eight.  The Raiders racked up seven hits and Joshua McCaffrey led with two hits.   Moore and Benjamin McHarg each had doubles. Brogan Barker and Richard Umholtz each had two RBIs. 

On Sunday, FMCC traveled to Glens Falls to take on Adirondack. 

In game one, FMCC fell 15-7.  Noah Wygel took the loss on the mound for the Raiders.  He pitched three innings and Hunter Young threw three innings in relief.  McCaffrey and James May each had two hits to lead the offense. 

In game two, FMCC got solid pitching from Dan Parslow to secure a 7-4 win.  Parslow pitched six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.  Bradley Smith came in for the save in the seventh inning.  At the plate the Raiders collected nine hits. Barker, Wygel and Umholtz  all went 2-4 to lead FMCC.

FMCC (15-11 overall) is scheduled to wrap up its regular season Thursday with a home doubleheader against Herkimer College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
