Relyea leads local racers at Guilderland Invy

NORTH RIVER — Mayfield’s Madison Relyea led the local skiers with her fourth-place finish in the girls varsity race at the Guilderland Nordic Invitational Tuesday at Garnet Hill Lodge.

Relyea posted a time of 20:34.4 over the 6.6K Garnet Hill course to finish behind Queensbury’s Bailey Gengel, who posted a winning time of 19:40.5, Shenendehowa’s Anna Wiedmann (19:45.0) and Hadley’s Katrin Schreiner (20:07.8).

Johnstown’s Alayna Gray finished 18 in the event with her time of 24:05.7, while Abigail Gottung was 31st in 29:05.6.

Canajoharie’s Maddie Elliot placed 33rd with her time of 30:06.4.

On the boys side, Tyler Newkirk led Mayfield with his 19th place finish in 30.25.2 over the 9.9K boys varsity course.

Riley Mykel finished 22nd for Mayfield with a time of 31:41.9, while Antonio Mannino was 28th in 32:38.7 and Dylan Bumpus was 29th in 32:44.1. Shawn Allen placed 32nd for the Panthers with his time of 32:48.7 and Adam Liebers was 49th with a time of 38:47.8.

Gabe Cole paced the Johnstown skiers with his 34th place finish with a time of 33:06.5, while Zachary Ropeter was 43rd in 35:19.7 and Dominic DiScioscia placed 53rd in 42:28.

The Mayfield boys placed seventh in the varsity teams standings with 69 points, while Johnstown was 11th with 130 points. Queensbury took top honors over Shenendehowa 19-35.

The Mayfield, Johnstown and Canajoharie girls squads all posted incomplete scores. Shenendehowa won the girls varsity race over Queensbury 15-22.
