Mohawks snap 2-game losing streak
SAUGERTIES — The Amsterdam Mohawks snapped a two-game losing streak Thursday, defeating the Saugerties Stallions 11-5 at Cantine Memorial Veterans Field.
The Mohawks broke open a tied ballgame with a seven-run fifth innng.
Anthony Gonnella provided the big hit in the inning for Amsterdam with a 3-run home run to help put the game out of reach.
Liam Wilson also connected for a home run and a double for Amsterdam, while Eric Rivera and Dan Maynard doubled.
Amsterdam starter B Reitz struck out four and walked three in four innings of work, while the Stallions starter, M Jones struck out five and walked one but allowed eight runs on 10 hits in just over four innings of work.
Amsterdam will host Sautergies in a doubleheader tonight at Shuttleworth Park with the first game of Gloversville Night starting at 5 p.m. with fireworks folling the second game.
