Harley Daniel Scotter Ryan, 18, of McKinley Place, Gloversville, died Saturday, August 30, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Gloversville on January 2, 1996, a son of Michael Pepper and Kelly McCloskey and attended school in Mayfield. Harley was a lifelong area resident.
He enjoyed working with his uncle at the Falls Brook Farm in St. Johnsville and had a special connection with the animals. Harley also was a caregiver to Robert Bowe, who he was close to and thought of as a grandfather.
Harley enjoyed the outdoors and was happy while fishing or four-wheeling. He loved spending time with family and friends, and had a way of making everyone feel special. Harley was a kind soul who was always ready to help others. He also enjoyed gaming with the play station.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, David Pepper.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Kelly and Stephen Sollak of Gloversville; his father, Michael Pepper of Broadalbin; a sister, Carly Ryan of Gloversville; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Rosanne McCloskey of Gloversville; paternal grandmother, Barbara Perry of Mayfield; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Harley shared a special bond with his uncle, Daniel Nellis of Oppenheim; and his special dog, Holly.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown, with the Rev. Linda Martin, officiating. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
