SCHENECTADY - Joshua T. Rose, son of Michael and Suzanne Rose of Gloversville, recently graduated from Union College with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry.
Rose was the William Howard Wright Chemistry Scholar for the class of 2014, and was awarded a full academic scholarship for all four years at Union, a news release said.
During his junior year, Rose began work on his senior thesis project and was awarded the Edward R. Kane Summer Research Fellowship for his research related to cells. During his senior year, Rose presented his research findings at the Union College Steinmetz Symposium and was inducted into the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society in recognition of research achievement in biochemistry.
He was also inducted into the Union College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society.
Rose was a member of the Union College football team for four years and appointed team captain in his senior year. He earned Liberty League All-Academic Team in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He was named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for 2012 and 2013. He was the winner of the Union College Richard E. Roberts '50 Service to Football Award, and was nominated for and participated in two post- season bowl games, the American Bowl in Mexico City, Mexico, and the All American Bowl in Minneapolis, Minn.
Rose was a member of the Union College indoor and outdoor men's track team during his senior year and was named rookie of the year for 2014.
Rose will attend the state Department of Health Wadsworth Center Master of Science in Laboratory Sciences Program in Albany. Rose will attend on a full academic and participatory research scholarship. Rose will begin his graduate studies at Wadsworth in September.
