AMSTERDAM - In connection with its 12th annual Dog Walk-a-Thon, the Montgomery County SPCA is sponsoring the Be Kind to Animals Poster and Writing Contest.
The contest is for first- through eighth-grade students in Montgomery County.
Each grade has a specific theme to draw or or write about, a news release said.
MCSPCA staff and board members will pick the top five entries. Those selections will be posted at the annual MCSPCA Dog Walk on May 31 at Shuttleworth Park, where participants and visitors will vote on a grand- prize winner, who will be announced at the Dog Walk.
The winner will receive an MCSPCA T-shirt and grab bag. The top five entries may also be turned into cards or bookmarks to give out or sell at the MCSPCA and events.
Poster themes include:
First and second grade: "Be Kind and Always Love Your Pet."
Third and fourth grade: "What Do Shelter Animals Dream of?"
Fifth and sixth grade: "Adopt Instead of Shop."
Seventh and eighth grade: "Choose the Right Pet for You."
Entry rules include:
Poster size is 11-by-17 inches, horizontal or vertical.
Essay or story can be on ruled paper or, if doing both, can be attached to poster.
Follow the specific theme for your grade.
You can use markers, paint colored pencil or crayon.
Do original work; no tracing or computer-generated art.
Entries will be judged on how the art and/or essay relates to the theme, creativity and neatness.
