Mr. Nicholas J. Marrone, 57, of Johnstown, NY, died suddenly on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at his home. Born in Amsterdam, NY, on March 19, 1957, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Adeline Marrone. Nick attended local schools and enlisted in the United States Army in 1975, serving four years. He took his first job with the United Sates Navy and worked four years until he was honorably discharged.
Upon his return to the area, Nick worked for several local companies including: Reeb Millwork, Waste Management, County Waste and the Amsterdam Recorder. At the time of his death, he was working for Walmart in Gloversville. Nick also volunteered his time with the Fulton County Meals on Wheels Program for a time.
Nick was truly a family man and was a friend to so many. He enjoyed collecting toy cars and building models. He enjoyed long walks with his dogs and spending time with his family and friends. Nick was a hard worker who tried tirelessly to provide for his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Dana Wallace Marrone; three children, Sean Marrone, Jennifer (Jordan) Spritzer and Alison Marrone; two sisters, Cecilia Marrone and Josephine Hornung; one grandchild, Gideon Spritzer; and several cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Charlotte Slachtovsky.
A service of remembrance will take place on Monday, April 21, 2014, at 6 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
